Couples/Relationship Therapy
When to Consider Couples Therapy
Relationships are hard! It's normal to need support sometimes, and difficult times have the potential strengthen your bond if you navigate them well. Here are some common reasons a couple might reach out to us:
Communication & Conflict
If it feels like you're having the same argument on repeat, or one of you shuts down while the other pushes to talk it out, you're not alone. This is one of the most common reasons couples reach out. We help you understand why your conversations go sideways and give you tools to actually hear each other, even when you disagree.
Trust & Infidelity
Whether it's an affair, a breach of trust, or ongoing insecurity that's wearing you both down, rebuilding safety in a relationship takes time and the right kind of support. We work with couples at every stage, from the immediate aftermath to years later, when old wounds still surface.
Intimacy & Connection
Mismatched needs around sex, affection, or closeness are common, and rarely about desire alone. We help couples talk about intimacy without shame or blame, and reconnect physically and emotionally.
Life Transitions
New babies, blended families, career shifts, illness, aging parents. Big life changes put pressure on even the strongest relationships. We help couples navigate change as a team instead of drifting apart under the strain.
Roles, Fairness & the Mental Load
When one partner feels like they're carrying more, whether it's chores, parenting, or the invisible planning that keeps a household running, resentment builds quietly. We help couples name what's happening and find a balance that actually works for both of you.
Growing Together, Not Apart
Sometimes couples come to us not in crisis, but because they've noticed distance creeping in: less connection, less curiosity about each other, more parallel lives than shared ones. Therapy isn't just for repair. It's also for couples who want to stay close on purpose.
Neurodivergence, Mood, and Personality Differences
Relationships where one or both partners are navigating ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or personality disorders face a unique set of dynamics, and they deserve care that understands this, not generic advice. We help couples separate what's happening from who's to blame, build communication strategies that actually fit how each of you thinks and processes, and find a rhythm that works with your differences instead of against them. You don't need a diagnosis to benefit from this kind of support, just a sense that traditional approaches haven't quite fit.
What to Expect in Sessions
After your introductory phone call, we'll meet in person. In our first session, I'll ask you both a few questions so I can get to know you individually, as well as the story of your relationship: how you met, what stood out about each other, and what drew you together.
From there, we move into the present: what's happening now, and what brought you in. I want to hear from each of you, and I make sure every voice is heard and respected equally. I don't take sides, but I will gently challenge you both to reflect and take ownership of what's yours to carry. My role is to support you, hold space for both of you to be heard, and help you feel appreciated by one another again. When your relationship is thriving, everything around you tends to thrive too.
I use the Gottman Method, which includes a few assessment forms early on (I know, paperwork isn't the fun part!). Once we've gathered that information, we'll sit down together and map out the way forward. This includes identifying the areas of your relationship that are already working well, alongside the areas we'll focus on strengthening.
I like to practice new skills in real time, right there in session, so you leave with tools you've already tried out together, not just talked about. There may be moments that feel uncomfortable along the way. I won't pretend otherwise. But a healthy, loving relationship is worth the work it takes to get there.
